A One-Year Trading
Research Lab
We’re exploring a new concept at Robuxio: a one-year Trading Research Lab for systematic traders and researchers.
The idea is simple. Build better systematic strategies. Get them evaluated under an institutional research framework. Gain access to a curated pool of trading ideas from other traders. And build a verified research track record that could eventually lead to paid research, model licensing, capital allocation or professional opportunities.
This is what we believe could make the Lab genuinely valuable.
Instead of researching alone, members would spend a year inside a structured environment designed to help them:
- •expand their pool of trading ideas
- •improve the quality and robustness of their research
- •have their own models professionally evaluated
- •track submitted models out of sample
- •learn directly from Robuxio quants and other serious traders
- •build a verified history of their research and results
- •and, for exceptional researchers, potentially move toward paid research, institutional allocations or professional trading opportunities
Research would cover digital assets, real-world assets, equities and ETFs.
What would it include?
01
Weekly research calls led by Pavel or Robuxio quants
We would focus on practical research topics such as model building, robustness and stress testing, portfolio allocation, AI in trading, research idea generation, market regime analysis, risk management and capital efficiency.
02
Build and submit real models
Members would research systematic strategies using a structured framework, with Robuxio providing feedback on the quality and robustness of the work.
Importantly, submitting a model for evaluation would not mean making it available to other members. Your model could remain private between you and the Robuxio evaluation model.
03
Out-of-sample evaluation
Once a model is submitted, its rules would be locked and its performance monitored on unseen data:
→ out-of-sample results → final evaluation
This evaluation process would be separate from the shared model library. A researcher could therefore build a verified record of models and OOS results without publicly sharing the underlying strategy.
This is particularly important to us.
Through our institutional work, we perform significant due diligence on external traders and strategies. We repeatedly see strategies that look impressive initially but fall apart under deeper analysis because of overfitting, weak out-of-sample evidence or excessive risk and leverage.
We want the Lab to help traders build research that can stand up to this level of scrutiny.
04
Access to a curated pool of models and research ideas
Separately, members would be able to voluntarily contribute models and research ideas to a shared library.
Access would be contribution-based: the more valuable research you contribute, the more research you can access.
Robuxio would review the quality of submissions before they enter the shared research pool.
For us, this could become one of the biggest benefits of the Lab: instead of every trader researching in isolation, members could gain exposure to a much broader pool of systematic trading ideas while Robuxio acts as a quality filter.
05
Build a verified research track record
Over the year, members could build a record of their submitted models, accepted research, validation results and out-of-sample performance.
And this is where the Lab could become more than simply a research environment.
There is an important reason why we want to build this from Robuxio’s side: over the long term, we want to find exceptional researchers and traders who could potentially become part of our team or broader research network.
Finding good systematic traders is difficult. Rather than evaluating someone based on a CV or short-term track record, the Lab would allow us to see how they research, what they build, how disciplined their process is, and how their models perform out of sample over time.
For the strongest researchers, this could potentially open further opportunities:
→ Robuxio Researcher / Trader
We also have relationships with other trading teams, funds and investment professionals and could potentially connect strong verified researchers with opportunities outside Robuxio.
Exceptional traders could also potentially move toward capital allocation through structures such as managed accounts, investment funds or exchange-traded products, where Robuxio already has practical experience.
There is obviously no guarantee of capital allocation, employment or external opportunities.
And institutional trading does not need to be the goal.
For many members, the value may simply be spending a year surrounded by serious systematic research, getting access to a much larger pool of ideas, receiving professional feedback and developing their trading under an institutional research framework that is normally difficult for independent traders to access.
But for those who do want to take it further, we want there to be a genuine path from:
→ professional opportunities → potentially institutional capital.
Help us shape it
We have not built the Lab yet
Before we do, we want to understand whether serious algorithmic traders would actually want to participate and which parts of the concept they value most.
If this concept interests you, help us shape it by sharing your feedback.
